Seneca: The Stoic Who Was Richer Than Kings

He was the richest man in Rome — worth 300 million sesterces, richer than many kings. Yet he preached that wealth is nothing, that time is the only treasure, and that a man should be ready to die at any moment. His name was Seneca. Tutor and advisor to the Emperor Nero, exiled to Corsica, dragged back to power, and finally ordered by his own student to take his life — Seneca lived the contradiction he wrote about. And in his Letters, he left us the most practical philosophy ever written.
