India’s KAL Drone Takes Flight At Pokhran, Gives 1,000-Km Kamikaze Capability To Match Iran's Shahed

India has tested KAL, a long-range attack drone, from a vehicle-mounted launcher at Pokhran. IG Defence says the platform can fly up to 1,000 kilometres, remain airborne for seven to eight hours and carry a payload of up to 50 kilograms. These are company-reported specifications, not a public announcement of military induction. Still, the test matters. Shahed-class and Geran drones have shown how low-cost, long-range weapons can stretch air defences and hit deep targets. KAL gives India a domestic option. The system uses satellite and inertial navigation and can link with the company’s GRID battle-management architecture. India is also building a wider drone ecosystem, from tactical strike systems to counter-drone tools. Gulf countries have shown interest in KAL, subject to government approvals.
