after effects tutorial: eye animation

how to animate eyes in after effects! follow my instagram @shiqao to see my edits ----- more detailed instructions: 1. copy and paste the image you want to animate two times (you should have 3 copies of it) 2. double click the first layer (the one on the bottom) with the brush tool selected. you should be taken to its layer composition 3. paint over the eye as if it weren't there 4. go back to your main composition and roughly mask the shape of the eye on the second layer 5. select the third layer (the one on the top) and mask the character's eyelid. this mask should be precise, it doesn't need to be perfect though 6. use the puppet tool to add pins onto the eyelid (the more pins, the more precise the animation will be) 7. go to where you want the character to blink (on the timeline) and drag the pins down 8. copy the first keyframes of the pin and paste it where you want your character to reopen their eye 9. on your second layer, animate the mask and drag the masks down ((your mask keyframes should be in the same positions as the puppet pin keyframes)) 10. select all the keyframes and animate them any way you want
