Rodion Shchedrin: Basso Ostinato- Lora Al-Ahmad, piano

“Basso Ostinato” is Shchedrin’s best-known work for solo piano. It was written for the second edition of the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, held in Moscow in 1962. You will hear improvisatory-type melodies in the right hand over an ostinato line in the left hand. The piece is highly virtuosic, vigorous in character and full of brilliant coloristic effects.
