The Real Reason Yorkshire Day Was Created

In 1975, the Yorkshire Ridings Society establish a brand new annual celebration called Yorkshire Day. But what exactly is it, and why was it created? To find out, I tracked down the society that started it all. Join me as we walk the historic York City Walls and stop at ancient gatehouses like Micklegate Bar to hear the 'Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity' read in both English and Latin. Along the way, we'll also uncover the surprising history behind the chosen date of August 1st, including its ties to the 1759 Battle of Minden and the 1834 abolition of slavery by Hull-born MP William Wilberforce. #yorkshire #britishhistory
