LEGO 1066 The Battle of Hastings (Remastered)

After the Anglo-Saxons had fought off Harald Hadrada and his viking army, at the battle of Stamford Bridge, they had to march from York, to the south of England. The Anglo-Saxon King, Harold Godwinson, had to lead his army to fight off the Normans. William Duke of Normandy had said he was the rightful king of England, but Harold was chosen as king. William had waited 2 months for the wind to blow his navy the right direction to England, and it did. Unfortunately for Harold Godwinson’s army, whilst they were in the North of England fighting off vikings from Scandanavia, William was raiding and pillaging the South of England with his Normans. Harold marched for five days, until the two armies met near Hastings… Harold had set up a shield wall upon a hill. His army consisted of regular infantry, who had been equipped with spears and shields. Behind these were housecarls, who were equipped with axes, and were an extra line of defence. William’s army consisted of regular infantry who had spears, swords, or axes. His army also had cavalry, who were men on horseback. Harold’s army and William’s army had similar numbers. The Battle of Hastings would turn out to be one of England’s most well-known and important battles. Music - Army of Minotaur
