Not every story belongs to a series. 🖤
Alongside Seven Deadly Sins and Dark Fairytales, we’ll also be creating standalone fantasy songs with different themes, worlds and ideas behind them.
This one asks a simple question:
Is evil something we are born with… or something we become?
A story about how pain, rejection and loss can slowly turn someone into the very thing they were never meant to be.

Lyrics:
Ooh, the candles bend low
Ooh, where did the guardian go?
He stood at the gate when the winter came crawling
With frost on the towers and wolves at the wall
He answered the widow, the wounded, the calling
He lifted the beggar and counseled the hall
Kings crossed the mountains to kneel for his wisdom
Queens sent their ravens with sorrow and fear
Children would whisper his name like a hymn sung
Certain their savior was always near
But who lit a lantern when his own night fell?
Who heard the cracks in his silver bell?
They praised him in famine, in fire, in pain
Then danced in the sunlight and forgot his name
Do you think evil is born in the bone?
Do you think monsters were always alone?
The worst shadows rise from the brightest flame
From hearts that loved all and received no name
Turning evil, slowly, quietly grieving
No one saw the saint stop believing
Not in a blink, not under one moon
But one dark day, he was gone too soon
And prayers were thrown to an empty sky
Where no one answered the kingdom’s cry
He gave them his summers, his strength, and his seasons
He mended their banners, he buried their dead
He traded his peace for a thousand good reasons
And swallowed the tears that he never shed
When his hands were shaking and hope had grown hollow
He reached for the faith he had planted in men
But none brought a candle, and none came to follow
They waited for miracles, not for a friend
A kindness unwatered will wither and twist
A blessing forgotten turns cold in the fist
They asked for his mercy, his magic, his light
But never his sorrow, his hunger, his night
Do you think evil is born in the bone?
Do you think monsters were always alone?
The worst shadows rise from the brightest flame
From hearts that loved all and received no name
Turning evil, slowly, quietly grieving
No one saw the saint stop believing
Not in a blink, not under one moon
But one dark day, he was gone too soon
And prayers were thrown to an empty sky
Where no one answered the kingdom’s cry
First came silence in the chapel stone
Then no warmth from the holy throne
Then no dreams when the children wept
Then no guard where the old bells slept
They said the darkness had crossed the plain
They said the enemy marched with flame
They cried his name till their voices tore
But the void only echoed, Nevermore
Ahh ahh ahh
Ohh ohh ohh
He watched from the ridge where the black clouds gathered
A crownless shape in a cloak of rain
The kingdom below him broke and scattered
Calling the name they had called in vain
Do you think evil is born in the bone?
Do you think monsters were always alone?
The worst shadows rise from the brightest flame
From hearts that loved all and received no name
Turning evil, slowly, softly deceiving
No one saw the saint stop believing
Not in a blink, not under one sun
But mercy can die when the giving is done
And prayers were thrown to an empty sky
Where no one answered the kingdom’s cry
And then they learned, as the last towers burned
He was the one who let the kingdom burn
Or did he strike flint? Did he whisper fire?
Did vengeance climb from a wounded desire?
No one will know what the ashes know
No one will name what the night winds sow
The brightest heart can become the pyre
When love is owed, but paid with fire
