BurgerTime was released for the Mattel Intellivision in 1983. This second BurgerTime gameplay session was captured from original Intellivision hardware in 2-player mode with no commentary.
Originally created by Data East and released in arcades in 1982, BurgerTime became one of the most recognizable arcade games of the early 1980s. Mattel Electronics brought the game to the Intellivision the following year as part of its growing lineup of arcade conversions.
Players control chef Peter Pepper as he races across platforms and ladders to assemble giant hamburgers. Walking across burger ingredients causes them to drop to the level below, eventually completing each burger at the bottom of the screen.
Peter Pepper is pursued by Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle and Mr. Egg. His limited supply of pepper can temporarily stun the enemies, while dropping burger ingredients can knock them down or carry them to lower platforms.
The Intellivision conversion was programmed by Ray Kaestner, who had previously worked on other Mattel Electronics projects. BurgerTime became one of the best-known arcade conversions on the system and remains closely associated with the Intellivision era.
Unlike my original single-player BurgerTime capture, this session uses the game's 2-player mode. Two players take turns controlling Peter Pepper and competing for the higher score on original Intellivision hardware.
More than four decades later, this is BurgerTime running on an original Mattel Intellivision—the same cartridge-era version players experienced in the early 1980s.
