McCrae Lake Trail: A 21km Hike Through Rugged Shield Country in Central Ontario

A new friend offered to take me on her favourite hike as I experience an amazing trail full of varied terrain and incredible views on a gorgeous day. Along the way she teaches me about the flora, the work behind those responsible for creating and maintaining the trail, and also the stresses to the area due to overuse. Along the way I try rock tripe as an initiation, find an odd semi-permanent structure, and bushwhack off-trail which entails climbing a cliff to get back to the main trail when we hit a dead end. It was a full day of fun and adventure exploring and seeing the land come alive in early spring. This 21km trail is an out and back, and would be considered moderately challenging.
