It is as if the modulations could go on forever, especially in the B section. Even though the long tail of the subject descends/ascends only one step per beat, the fast harmonic velocity gives every eighth note a different color. Note how Bach did not shy away from parallel 10ths at the bass's final entry. The piece ends triumphantly when the subject tail is cut off abruptly.
The BACH motif occurs in e.g. the alto voice in the second last bar of the A section.
