Multiliteracies: Reshaping the English Language Classroom - Alexandre Koch

A language classroom, either physical or virtual, does not need to be only a place where students learn language. Quite the opposite, it is a natural place for developing relationships and promote cultural encounters, where students can work collaboratively towards an objective and take ownership of their learning. A listening exercise should not only develop listening skills. Reading must not be only about reading. Making use of the Pedagogy of Multiliteracies, we have the opportunity to reshape activities into life-changing experiences, introducing creative and critical thinking, collaboration, social responsibilities and agency apart from communication, preparing our students to a diverse, multicultural and multilingual world. Alexandre Koch começou uma carreira na área de Química, mas sua paixão pela lingua inglesa logo o levou a buscar um grau em Letras pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) e o Certificado de Proficiência em Inglês (CPE) de Cambridge. Alexandre lecionou em várias escolas, tanto regulares como de idiomas, atuando também como coordenador pedagógico por muitos anos. Atualmente é examinador oral dos exames de Cambridge e consultor acadêmico na Cambridge University Press, conduzindo treinamentos de professores e dando suporte a escolas principalmente no estado do Rio Grande do Sul.
