The second-generation Audi R8 LMS was introduced in 2015 alongside the new road-going R8, with a major focus on improved safety, advanced aerodynamics and overall performance, within GT3 regulations. It featured enhanced safety elements like crumple zones and a specialized racing seat, along with reduced weight, redesigned suspension and updated transmission and traction control systems. Despite sharing about half of its parts with the production car, it was heavily optimized for racing and proved its capability by winning the Nürburgring 24 Hours on its debut.
Later, in 2019, the Audi R8 LMS received an evolved version: the Evo.
This model brought improvements in stability, consistency and overall handling, making it more predictable and easier to control.
However, I still prefer the original R8 LMS — it delivers a stronger sense of raw speed, sharper responsiveness and a more aggressive, attack-focused driving experience! 💪
Back behind the wheel of the legendary Audi R8 LMS (pre-Evo), I take on one of the toughest Gr.3 challenges in GT7 — and this one gets messy fast! 🤪
Having already driven both versions of the R8 LMS, I can confidently say: I still prefer the original. It just feels faster, sharper and more effective where it counts. But can it prove that on track? 🤔
The race takes place on the longest layout of St. Croix and I’m thrown straight into chaos. Starting from last place with four aggressive Gr.3 rivals ahead, I’m immediately trapped in a tight, overcrowded pack where everyone’s fighting for every bit of space… sometimes literally on top of each other! 😐
The opening lap is brutal. Constant contact, dirty moves, getting pushed off line — it’s a struggle just to stay on track and keep the car under control, let alone gain positions. But I stay in it, waiting for my moment...
And then… karma starts to work! 😎
One by one, the dirtiest drivers begin to fall apart — mistakes, crashes, rage quits. The chaos clears and only the clean racers remain.
Now the real race begins...
Can the old Audi R8 LMS rise above the madness and prove it still has what it takes to win? Let’s find out! 😉
