Top 10 Modern Comics Every Comic Collector Should Own

I’m primarily a vintage comic collector, but that doesn’t mean modern comics don't deserve a place in a serious collection. In this episode of Slabbed Portfolios, I’m counting down 10 modern comics I would genuinely want in my own collection, from important first appearances and defining independent books to comics that helped shape entire eras of the hobby. We’re talking Spawn #1, Batman Adventures #12, The Walking Dead #1, Invincible #1, Ultimate Fallout #4, Edge of Spider-Verse #2, Absolute Batman #1 and more. And this isn’t a list of the “10 hottest modern investments.” Some of these books have enormous print runs. Some aren't particularly rare. That's part of the point. A comic doesn't have to be scarce to be important, iconic—or just incredibly cool to own. Vintage collectors collect history that has already been written. With modern comics, sometimes we're watching that history happen in real time.
