The Butterfield Trail helped facilitate America's westward expansion and in 1858 to get from Memphis to Fort Smith the stage required a ferry to cross the Arkansas River at Dardanelle. Bob Crossman stands on the bank of today's much different Arkansas River to help us visualize what travel looked like in the 19th Century.
