We arrived during a storm with muddy roads, a trailer behind us, and by the time we made it back to the property it was already dark. Then we discovered the power was out because the free-range cattle had disconnected parts of our solar arrays, leaving the batteries without enough charge. The food inside the camper had gone bad, we had water pressure problems that kept us from showering, and the cows had also damaged our Starlink cable, leaving us without internet. And that was just the first night. The cattle had gotten underneath the cabin, tracked mud everywhere, and left us an even bigger mess to clean up. Then the rain continued for the next several days, making it difficult to recharge the batteries with solar, and our backup generator decided not to start. Sometimes off-grid living is peaceful. Sometimes you come home and everything seems to go wrong at once. This was definitely one of those times.
