Alphea Wiggins is a distinguished Barbadian diplomat, former Independent Senator, business professional and public servant whose career has spanned diplomacy, international relations, business management and national development. In 2014, she was appointed Deputy High Commissioner for Barbados to the United Kingdom, representing her country and supporting diplomatic relations between Barbados and Britain. In September 2018, Alphea was sworn in as an Independent Senator in the Parliament of Barbados, adding another significant chapter to her career in public service. She has also served as Barbados' Special Envoy to Guyana and Suriname, contributing to efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, diplomatic relationships, trade and connectivity across the Caribbean and South America. Before entering diplomatic service, Alphea worked as an accountant and management consultant, holding senior positions including Executive Manager of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons and General Manager of ALMAR Business Centre Inc. Her professional journey reflects a longstanding commitment to leadership, service and the development of Barbados and the wider Caribbean. On this episode of Unedited Conversations, host Pamela R Haynes sits down with Alphea Wiggins to explore her journey, the experiences that shaped her career, the challenges and opportunities of representing Barbados internationally, and her reflections on leadership, legacy and the future of the Caribbean. As Barbados celebrates 60 years of independence in 2026, this conversation provides an opportunity to reflect on the nation's achievements, its changing place in the world and the contributions of Barbadian women who helped shaped its story.
