Fannie Masemola charges dropped today
Fannie Masemola's criminal case has taken a dramatic turn.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has ordered the withdrawal of the charges against suspended National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola after a review found that there were no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.
But this raises a bigger question:
Why was Masemola charged in the first place?
In this video, we break down the Fannie Masemola case, the controversial Medicare24 Tshwane District tender, his four PFMA charges, his appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates' Court, his suspension by President Cyril Ramaphosa, and the questions raised during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
We also look at the questioning of former IDAC head Andrea Johnson, where Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga questioned the decision to charge Masemola alongside other accused in the Medicare24 matter.
Finally, we look at the NPA's September 2026 decision to withdraw the charges and what happens next for Masemola.
The NPA said its review considered evidence gathered by IDAC, a Case Assessment Panel report and an independent Senior Counsel's opinion. The NPA concluded that there were no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution and said the circumstances surrounding the prosecution would be reported for further scrutiny.
⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video is based on publicly available news reports, court proceedings, official statements and evidence presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. Allegations discussed in this video remain allegations unless proven in court. Fannie Masemola is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
