Satomi Watanabe “Impromptu” (2026) for Oboe solo (*) World Premiere Vicente Mornta, Oboe Jobe, Japan August-2026 The theme of this piece revolves around the Japanese word kyou. In my piece, it takes the form of two specific kanji characters: 響 (kyou), representing the resonance and captivating tone of the oboe, and 興 (kyou) from the title Impromptu. This character 興 carries meanings of creating something new, being deeply moved, and finding captivating joy or charm. Alongside these two kyou concepts, the music alternates between rapid, improvisational passages and beautifully lyrical oboe melodies. —————— El tema de esta obra gira en torno a la palabra japonesa «kyou». En mi obra, esta palabra adopta la forma de dos caracteres kanji concretos: 響 (kyou), que representa la resonancia y el tono cautivador del oboe, y 興 (kyou), procedente del título «Impromptu». Este carácter, 興, encierra significados como crear algo nuevo, sentirse profundamente conmovido y encontrar una alegría o un encanto cautivadores. Junto a estos dos conceptos de «kyou», la música alterna entre pasajes rápidos e improvisados y melodías de oboe maravillosamente líricas.
