Vancouver Island Isn't Really Canadian. It Crashed Into Canada.

Much of Vancouver Island is Wrangellia, a slab of crust whose six-kilometre pile of lava cooled near the equator and drifted across the Pacific until it jammed against North America around a hundred million years ago, and that collision raised the island's mountains, its record rainfall and the fjords that made it a floatplane coast.
