I will start my day 6 stream at 11:30AM ET CASE SUMMARY: Tomasz Kosowski is charged with first-degree murder in the 2023 disappearance and presumed death of attorney Steven Cozzi. Cozzi was last seen entering his law office in Largo, Florida, on March 21, 2023. His body has never been recovered. The State alleges Kosowski, a plastic surgeon, targeted Cozzi because of a long-running civil case where Cozzi represented parties on the other side. This trial has a few interesting bits: • No body was ever recovered. • Kosowski is representing himself. • He waived a jury, so Judge A. Joseph Bulone will decide guilt. • He also waived a jury for any penalty phase. • The State is seeking the death penalty. • Kosowski has said he does not want to present mitigation evidence. The State's case includes surveillance video, blood and DNA evidence, a fingerprint found inside a utility closet near the restroom where Cozzi was last seen, license plate reader data, phone/Wi-Fi evidence, a remote dumpster investigation, and evidence recovered from Kosowski's vehicles. Police say they also recovered approximately $280,000 in cash, masks, guns, an EMS vest, syringes and succinylcholine, a paralytic used in medical settings. Kosowski has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent. The State has the burden of proving the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
