Walking through the West Central District, the mix of old temples, historic shophouses, and modern streets gives the city a unique atmosphere. We checked out the Tainan Art Museum 1 & 2, where traditional meets contemporary in some of Taiwan’s most intriguing exhibits. Of course, no visit to Tainan is complete without stopping by the Confucius Temple, Taiwan’s first Confucian temple, dating back to 1665. It’s a peaceful spot, surrounded by courtyards and centuries-old traditions. But let’s be real—the real religion in Tainan is food. Beef soup is a must-try, with fresh slices of beef lightly cooked in a flavorful hot broth. Then there’s danzai noodles, a bowl of pure comfort with savory broth, minced pork, and shrimp. And for something sweet? The Tainan cookie is a local favorite. From there, we headed to Anping Old Town, home to some of Taiwan’s most important colonial history. Wandering through the narrow alleys, you can still feel the Dutch influence from the 1600s, especially at Fort Zeelandia, where stone walls and cannons tell the story of Taiwan’s past as a global trading hub. And just when we thought we’d seen it all, we found ourselves at the Tainan Sausage Museum—because why wouldn’t a city this obsessed with food have a whole museum dedicated to sausage? It’s weird, it’s fascinating, and somehow, it fits perfectly with Tainan’s vibe. From ancient temples to legendary street food, Tainan is a city that lives and breathes history.
