With Raissa preparing to leave the Philippines for college in the United States, Jo fears that growing apart could mean losing the person she considers family. Their adventure through Nakali becomes a story about friendship, memories, growing up, and the people who help make us who we are. In my spoiler-free review, I discuss the beautiful animation, Filipino identity, voice cast, humor, familiar story beats, and why I still think Forgotten Island is worth watching despite borrowing heavily from movies like Inside Out, Moana, The Hangover, Elio, and The Super Mario Bros.
