This presentation will introduce the principles of a Just Culture and explore how it supports resident safety, quality improvement, and psychological safety for staff in long-term care settings. You will learn how to distinguish between human error, at-risk behaviour, and reckless behaviour, and understand the appropriate organizational responses to each. Through practical examples and analysis of safety events and near misses, you will examine how system factors and contributing conditions influence outcomes, while considering the unique challenges and opportunities of implementing a Just Culture within the realities of long-term care, including workforce pressures, regulatory requirements, resident complexity, and family expectations.
