Getting paid well doesn't necessarily mean your freelance contract protects you.
A contract can promise you ₦3 million a month and still leave you exposed to scope creep, delayed payments, loss of intellectual property, or an unexpected termination.
In this video, we look at 4 things every freelancer should check before signing a client contract:
📌 Scope of work - Is the work clearly defined, or does the contract leave room for unlimited “additional” work?
📌 Payment terms - Does the contract actually say when and how you'll be paid, and what happens if payment is delayed?
📌 Intellectual property - Are you transferring only what you created for the client, or could the wording accidentally capture your existing templates, frameworks, systems or other materials?
📌 Termination - What happens if the client wants to end the relationship? What if you want to leave? What happens to completed work and outstanding payments?
A freelance contract is not just about how much you're getting paid.
It's also about what you're agreeing to, what you're giving away, and what happens when things don't go according to plan.
If you're a freelancer, consultant, designer, developer, writer, content creator or other professional working with clients, watch this before signing your next contract.
