Think Global: How to secure the Erasmus Mundus, DAAD, Commonwealth Scholarships & More

The U.S. isn’t the only door to a fully funded graduate degree. In this session of the Michael Taiwo Scholarships webinar series, 2021 MT Scholar Ademola Adeniji shows how to find, apply for and win graduate scholarships in Europe, Canada, the UK and Asia. He doesn’t speak in theory. He has done it himself. Ademola graduated as the best student in both his department and his faculty at LAUTECH (Chemical Engineering, 4.83/5.0). He then earned a Master’s in Energy with distinction at CentraleSupélec, Paris, on an IDEX Excellence Scholarship. After that came a double master’s in Chemistry and Nanomaterials through the Erasmus Mundus SERP+ programme (Université Paris-Saclay, France, and the University of Porto, Portugal). He went on to a CNRS-funded PhD in Materials Chemistry at the Institute of Materials Science of Mulhouse (IS2M), France, where he worked on next-generation sodium-ion energy storage. He brought 70+ slides of links and resources and walked through every one. What you’ll learn: 1. How Erasmus Mundus works: full tuition, a €1,400/month stipend and 2 or more master’s degrees from different EU countries 2. How to use the Erasmus catalogue, and why you should check a programme’s funding years before you apply 3. How to build an evidence-based Europass CV that reads like you already belong in the programme 4. How to structure a motivation letter: start with a problem, use the STAR method, and know the dos and don’ts (including why European reviewers want plain English) 5.How to choose referees and prepare for technical interviews 6. How to write short emails to professors that actually get replies 7. Where to find funded professors in Canada, across all disciplines 8. France (Campus France, the École Polytechnique direct PhD track, IDEX, Eiffel), Germany (DAAD, EPOS), 10 fully funded Italian scholarships, the UK (Cambridge Mastercard, Commonwealth), Switzerland (EPFL) 8. Asia: the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship, KFUPM direct PhD, Chinese Government scholarships, CAS-ANSO and Korea’s GKS 9. Options for students in the arts, social sciences, business and accounting, not just STEM His core advice: “Your final destination doesn’t have to be your first country. Leave first, then move.” About the Michael Taiwo Scholarships The Michael Taiwo Scholarships support talented students pursuing graduate education by helping them navigate and prepare for opportunities abroad.
