Why does a balloon stick to your hair? Is it sticky, like glue? Is it a magnet? 🎈 In this longer lesson for kids aged 8 to 11, we put a plain balloon on a wall, rub one on some hair with magic glasses that show the tiny charges, lift it just above the hair, test it with a magnet and a steel paperclip, rub two balloons and hang them up again, bring a rubbed balloon up to a thin stream of tap water, and watch a balloon on a wall on a dry day and on a damp day. Pause and guess at each question, then try the quiz at the end! ▶ Try it yourself, free: https://nowiseewhy.com/static?from=yt... An interactive 3D lesson for ages 5–11, with a Grown-ups level too. No accounts, and no ads in the lessons. Opposite charges pull together, so it sticks, even to a wall, and the same charges push apart. On damp days the charges leak away faster. Static is tiny and safe, but electricity from sockets can kill: never play with sockets, plugs or anything plugged in. Got a "why" question?
