From his years as an activist and leader of people’s movements to becoming the face of Raijor Dal, his political journey has been marked by protests, confrontations, strong criticism and an uncompromising style of politics. In this video, we discuss Akhil Gogoi’s life, political journey, personality, temperament and leadership style. Why does he so openly criticise other political leaders, parties and even people who have worked alongside him? Is this fearless attitude Akhil Gogoi’s greatest political strength, or can it sometimes become his weakness? A major part of Akhil Gogoi’s politics has been his fierce opposition to Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP government in Assam. He has repeatedly challenged the Chief Minister and BJP on different political and public issues. But Akhil Gogoi has also not spared the Congress, despite attempts by opposition parties to come together against the BJP. The recent deterioration of relations between Raijor Dal and the Assam Congress has once again brought Akhil Gogoi’s political approach into the spotlight. The Congress announced that it was severing political ties with Raijor Dal in September 2026 following an increasingly bitter exchange between the two sides. Akhil Gogoi subsequently launched a strong attack on the Assam Congress leadership.
