We often talk about having children as the ultimate act of selflessness. But what if we were honest enough to admit that, in some sense, having children is selfish? We choose to become parents. We want the love, the joy, the experience, the family, and the unimaginable happiness that a child can bring into our lives. A child doesn’t ask to be born — we make that decision. And yet, once we make that choice, parenthood asks something profound of us: sacrifice. Motherhood requires a dying to self. Our time, freedom, sleep, routines, ambitions, and priorities inevitably change. But does sacrificing for our children mean we have to abandon ourselves completely? I don’t think so. In this video, I reflect on the tension between the joy we receive from parenthood and the sacrifices it requires — and why I believe we need to be honest about both. Because our children should never have to feel indebted to us for the sacrifices we chose to make for them. And perhaps the goal isn’t to stop being ourselves when we become parents, but to become better versions of ourselves while making room for another human being. What do you think? Is having children selfish? And if it is, does that necessarily make it a bad thing? #Motherhood #Parenting #MotherhoodJourney #MomGuilt #Parenthood Subscribe if you're seeking more depth, less noise, and a place to reflect. 🌐 Read the blog: www.theprudentdrift.com 📸 Instagram & TikTok: @theprudentdrift
