Metal fatigue is a form of structural damage that accumulates over time and can result in failures from cracks. Aluminum airplanes are particularly affected. I am explaining what structural fatigue is, which materials are the most susceptible, when and where cracks are likely develop and what can be done during the design phase and operation of the airplane to minimize the chance of fatigue failures.
