Bagration 1944: 40,000 Germans Trapped at Bobruisk in 4 Days
On the twenty-fourth of June, nineteen forty-four, the German Ninth Army held a line of rivers and swamps in front of Bobruisk. It had about ninety thousand men. In the attack sectors, Rokossovsky's First Belorussian Front had more than three men for every German. It had six guns for every German gun.
How the trap closed, on the map:
Why the German Ninth Army believed the swamps around Parichi would hold the line at Bobruisk.
Rokossovsky's two-blow plan, and how Batov's 65th Army crossed the "impassable" marsh on log roads.
How the 9th Tank Corps and the 1st Guards Tank Corps closed the ring behind Bobruisk on 27 June 1944.
The 526-plane strike on the pocket and the night breakout led by the last tanks of the 20th Panzer.
The count: about 70,000 of the Ninth Army's 90,000 men lost by the fall of Bobruisk on 29 June (Soviet count), and the road to Minsk left open.
Dates, armies and the final count on the Bobruisk pocket are pinned below the video.
