The Second Crusade (1147-1150) was launched in response to the fall of the Crusader state of Edessa to Muslim forces. Led by King Louis VII of France and Emperor Conrad III of Germany, the campaign aimed to reclaim lost territories but ended in failure. The crusaders' efforts to capture Damascus were unsuccessful, and the crusade ultimately weakened the Christian states in the Holy Land rather than strengthening them.
