Les Miserables The Whole Story

Bishop Myriel visits the crowded hospital at Digne. He offers the patients his palace and moves into their smaller building with his sister Baptistine and their housekeeper Magloire. Jean Valjean arrives after nineteen years in prison at Toulon. His path leads through Fantine's work and illness at Montreuil, his confession at Arras, the battlefield at Waterloo and Cosette's rescue from the Thénardiers at Montfermeil. In Paris, Javert pursues them while Marius learns about his father and falls in love with Cosette. Éponine, Gavroche and Enjolras enter the fighting of June 1832. Valjean carries Marius through the sewers, and the story continues through Javert's death, the wedding and the last visit to Valjean's bedside. Years covered: 1796–1833, with earlier recollections of Myriel's life. Sources: Victor Hugo, Les Misérables, complete Isabel F.
