I'm following Tolkien's writing advice | Bucket Life

Hello lovelies, The other day I got inspired by Kate Cavanaugh's series where she tries to write like famous authors - go follow her channel !!    / @katecavanaugh   - and I decided to create a series where I follow some famous writer's advice... but with a cooking twist! Every time I'm going to follow a writer's routine I'm also going to cook food or brew tea that are inspired by the stories they wrote! Today I'm following Tolkien's five principles for better writing, and that means a lot of hobbit food ! Tolkien is the master of the fantasy genre, he took years planning his maps and developing his lore. I couldn't find a strict schedule that he followed every day when he was writing but his five principles have proven to be very helpful to me ! As for the food, who can say no to a chicken and mushroom hobbit pie and some athelas tea ? I know it's NaNoWriMo time and many authors are isolating themselves to have some productive writing. Well maybe you'll want to hear those tips and cook those delicious comfort food for when you need some inspiration ! Next time we're going to explore C.S. Tolkien's principle : 1 - Lay the ground work : draw your characters and maps, complete your world building before starting writing your book 2 - The importance of little failures : don't be afraid to re-write chapters you're not happy with. Try many approaches to your storytelling until you find whats suits your story best 3 - Write... with a typewriter. By all means what he meant by that is to avoid wasting time writing by hand if you are eventually going to attempt to publish the manuscript. He was most creative when writing in bed (on his typewriter) with some hot tea! 4 - Write your prose first into poems. Tolkien always used this method to introduce more rythme in his writing. 5 (Bonus) - : Tolkien coined the word eucatastrophe : a happy catastrophe.
