I traveled the approximately 30 mile length of Phantom Canyon Road in Colorado. It runs from just east of Canon City, Colorado off Route 50 and ends just outside of the old mining town, Victor, Colorado. I didn't stop and get out much during the drive due to limited time. The road is approximately 30 miles long, as I said, and about 25 miles of it is dirt, narrow and along cliffs. The views are worth the long and slow drive through the canyon! Plenty of areas to pitch a tent and camp as it is mostly public land. I made this drive on November 1st. The temperature was in the upper 60s but was obviously cooler going through the canyon and some areas had a little snow and ice on the road. I recommend all wheel drive or 4 wheel drive from October through April considering there will more than likely be snow. Otherwise you can easily take a 2 wheel drive vehicle on this journey during warmer times of the year.
