You don't choose the first feeling you wake up with. Exhaustion got there before you did, or worry, or the weight of something still unresolved from yesterday — and that first feeling usually decides how much patience you have left by afternoon, and how you answer the first hard message of the day.
This video is about a Hawaiian idea called Pono: things standing in their right relationship — with yourself, with the people around you, with the day ahead. Not a perfect state you reach once, but something you return to, morning after morning, especially on the mornings you've drifted from it.
Using the image of a canoe leaving the shore just a couple of degrees off course, we look at why forcing positive thoughts backfires, what the Hawaiian idea of Kuleana can teach you about carrying only what's actually yours, and three small, repeatable return points you can use even on your hardest mornings — including the one small physical gesture that actually holds the other two together.
If this way of starting the day is useful to you, tell me in the comments which of the three return points you're going to try tomorrow morning.
