An aluminum cube of 12 cm side must be cast along a cylindrical riser of height equal to its diameter. The riser is not insulated on any surface. If the volume shrinkage of aluminum during solidification is 6 per cent; calculate: (i) Shrinkage volume of cube on solidification. (ii) Minimum size of the riser so that it can provide the shrinkage volume. (The minimum volume of the riser should be at least three time the shrinkage volume) Riser design example problem is discussing in this video. In metal casting riser design is a very important calculation. Riser are used to avoid shrinkage cavity defect in casted parts.
