Sudoku is a logic-based number puzzle played on a 9x9 grid divided into nine 3x3 subgrids. The objective is to fill the grid so that each row, column, and 3x3 subgrid contains all the numbers from 1 to 9 exactly once. It does not require arithmetic but instead relies on deduction and logical reasoning to determine the placement of the missing numbers, with the number of pre-filled cells dictating the difficulty. While Howard Garns created the precursor puzzle "Number Place" in the 1970s, Japanese puzzle creator Maki Kaji developed the modern Sudoku in the 1980s.
