2018 West Coast Trip - Part 3

Day 12, August 14 Stopped by West Glacier entrance of Going to the Sun Road, still closed. Kootenai Falls and Suspension bridge, past Libby, MT Ross Creek Cedar forest, smoke from fires was quite bad in this area, Heron, MT Bonners Ferry, ID Fireside Park, Spirit Lake, ID, smoke makes interesting sunsets Spokane,WA, Carl's Jr The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Spokane. Spokane Courthouse To Davenport, closest hotel back in Spokane, Motel 6 West Spokane, WA for the night. Day 13 Wed 15 August Woke up to soda can on bike. Cleaned the bike, Brown Bear Car Wash. Found a chunk of Styrofoam insulation jammed in the engine Got off the highway to check out Ginkgo Petrified Forest, Vantage, WA. Fires burned area so bad that mountain goats were in a residential area. Burn was bad enough that I didn't even bother with the petrified Forest. Walked around Seattle Space Needle, warfs from sculpture Sirens of Spring then past the piers to Seattle Great Wheel, Pike Place Market at end of day and was able to get some deserts and snacks, Hotel in Port Angeles, Holiday Lodge. Day 14 Thursday 16 August Got to the ferry by 8AM, Black Ball Ferry Line, Port Angeles, WA. Got to Victoria around 9:30. Double deck bus tour around Victoria. Cold, hit by a branch. Barely fit my bike in the ferry on the way back. Almost had to wait 4 and a half hours. Back to Washington about 4:30. Got a much needed nap on the ferry. Taco Time, had fun conversation with some locals about travels and food. Night at Hotel 6 in Tumwater, Olympia. Walked around a bit. Day 15 - Friday 17 August Olympia The Olympia Farmers Market, walked around the harbor for pics. Checked out the Historic District, then downtown. Snacks at Budd Bay Cafe. Mount Rainier, hiked most of the trails. Up the side route to Camp Muir about 1/2 - 2/3 of the way. About 10 miles total on and off trails. The Seasons Motel in Morton, WA Day 16 Saturday 18 August Mount Saint Helens was a bust. Roads are horrible, need a pass to climb to the top. Drove to Bivuac parking lot and Ape Cave, Needed a permit for parking, wasn't going to waste a whole day trying to get one and not be able to hike to the top. Portland, drove through downtown, walked around a bit near the river Salem, Center Market Hopmere, Oregon State Capitol State Park Got to the ocean by Newport after dark, Don & Ann Davis Park. cold and humid, but still had to splash a bit. Amzoil full synthetic 10W40 and new oil filter. Cleaned air filter. 3383 Airway Dr, Santa Rosa, CA 95403 Piner Cafe for lunch while oil change, Santa Rosa, CA Stopped at another motorcycle shop, found reservoir cap had fallen under side cover. Golden Gate Bridge San Jose for lunch Monterey Bay, Navy guard was cool about letting me on base quick without me having to dig my ID out for checking for ID. I didn't end up going in because it was getting late and I needed gas. More hwy 1. Silver Surf Motel, San Simeon. CA
