Good Morning Good Morning - Take 8: You’ve Never Heard Paul's Drum This Clear

In early 1967, inspired by a Kellogg’s TV jingle that was constantly playing in the background, John, frustrated by suburban routine, something already present even at this early stage of his life, composed this song with the help of his new Mellotron in his home studio. A few days later, on 8 February 1967 during the first sessions for ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, The Beatles, working from John’s somewhat rough idea, shaped what we now call ‘Good Morning, Good Morning’. Eight takes were enough to complete the song. One of the most distinctive elements is the drum sound: the toms were reportedly muffled using a cloth or a sack over the tom to create a dry, ‘muffled’ hit that stands out in the mix with unusual force, giving the track the feel of a double kick drum (far too contemporary if you ask me). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sgt.
