Watching it again, I found something much more interesting: the unstable moment before Valkyries, Skull Squadron, and the mythology of Macross became legends. This is a look at its prototype fighters, Mayan Island, its compressed romance, the Bird Human, and why Shin Kudo is not simply forgotten—he gets swallowed by history.
