While the Goddess lived as a celibate ascetic on the southern coast, Banasura grew captivated by her beauty and demanded to marry her. When Kanyakumari firmly rejected his proposal, the enraged demon attempted to seize her by force. Confronting him in battle at Mahadanapuram, the Goddess revealed her fierce Bhadrakali form and decapitated Banasura with her sacred chakra.
