This train is too long for the 650 mtr (2,130 ft) platform. And overhangs by a few carraiges past the end. Effectively NR26 is locked in, blocking the points at the Perth City end, unable to run around the train. These 30 odd car length trains operating in tourist high season times, require a light engine to run from PacNat's Kewdale Depot To haul the empty Indian Pacific train back to Kewdale, for cleaning and restocking during the overnight stopovers. NR29 was that loco arriving and attached for this movement. NR26 remains coupled, onto the train At the rear, with engine in idle power. Spot the unusual for daytime running, a two car A series rail car set stopped at East Perth Station on the Midland suburban line. This train service to Midland, has to wait until 5AP8 to clear the main line. Off peak running times, on Perth's electrified suburban lines.
