Ad Dominum Redeamus is a collection of eight profoundly melancholic Latin motets shaped by the dark and intimate beauty of the Phrygian mode.
Unaccompanied SATB voices travel through a voiceless evening, windblown ashes, a starless sea, winter memories, an abandoned garden, a sleepless hour, distant bells, and the fading glow of a final candle. The Phrygian lowered second gives each work its distinctive sound of longing, sorrow, and spiritual unrest.
Throughout the collection, the recurring words “Ad Dominum redeamus”—“Let us return to the Lord”—become a quiet path through grief. These motets do not move toward dramatic triumph. Instead, they end in stillness, acceptance, and the faint possibility of returning light.
Track List and Descriptions
1. Vesper Sine Voce
A voiceless evening descends as the final colors disappear from the sky. A solitary heart listens for an answer in the growing darkness, eventually discovering a faint call that leads it home.
2. Cinis Sub Vento
Ash rises from the remains of an extinguished fire and scatters into the night. Beneath the cold ruins of memory, one fragile ember survives, preserving the possibility of renewed light.
3. Mare Sine Stella
A lonely figure waits beside a starless sea while distant voices seem to rise and disappear among the waves. The music moves like dark water, searching for a harbor hidden beyond the night.
4. Nix Super Memoriam
Snow falls quietly over old roads and gradually covers every familiar footprint. Although winter conceals the past, memory continues to protect what time cannot completely erase.
5. Hortus Sine Vere
An abandoned garden remains silent beneath bare branches. Beneath the frozen earth, however, a small root continues to wait, suggesting that life may return even after the longest winter.
6. Hora Sine Somno
During a sleepless hour, every hidden memory returns. The stillness of the house magnifies fear and loneliness until the distant song of a single bird announces that dawn is approaching.
7. Campana Procul
A distant bell sounds beyond mist-covered fields, calling lost travelers through the darkness. Its fading resonance becomes a guide toward a home that cannot yet be clearly seen.
8. Ultima Candela
A final candle trembles inside a cold and silent house. As its flame slowly fades, its light passes into the hearts of those who remain, preparing them to meet the first light of morning.
