Boccherini Sonata for Violin and Cello in D Major (Monty Bloom and Steve Kramer 2026) Sonata for Violin and Cello in D Major 00:00 1. Allegretto spiritoso 01:51 2. Vivace 03:51 3. Grave 06:38 4. Allegro assai Monty Bloom (violin) Steve Kramer (cello) “Welcome to the historically significant and extraordinary music by cellist, composer, and genius, Luigi Boccherini. Boccherini who was a contemporary of Mozart’s and shed light on the cello’s endless possibilities, bringing the instrument out of the ‘basso continue’ sphere, into the voice of a soloist. This masterpiece, the joyful and glorious ’Sonata for Violin and Cello in D Major’ is a testament to the important work by Boccherini who took upon himself to uplift humanity with such beauty and bravour, following the end of Johann Sebastian Bach’s divine era. This composition has been neglected in today’s performance repertoire and therefore it is my immense pleasure to record with the outstanding American musician and super violinist, Monty Bloom. The arrangement by Jasha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky was carefully pieced together by ear. Unfortunately, after multiple attempts inquiring about the arrangement of this composition, The Colburn School housing 'The Piatigorsky Archives' in Los Angeles did not return to me. Therefore I took upon myself to transcribe the recorded version by Heifetz and Piastigorsky, in collaboration with the two gentlemen, Argentinian Alex Caino, and Croatian Tin Brnardić. I was able to fulfill my dream for future aspiring musicians and generations to enjoy, paying tribute to two of the greatest musicians of all times, the legendary violinist and cellist, Jasha Heifetz, and Gregor Piatigorsky. My first and former cello teacher, Erling Bløndal Bengtsson was a pupil under the tutelage of Gregor Piatigorsky at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, in America. At Curtis Institute of Music, Erling Bløndal Bengtsson became the first in history cello assistant of Piatigorsky’s, and conducted for four consecutive years, his own cello class, at Curtis Institute of Music. Thank you Jascha Heifetz and Gregor Piatigorsky. Thank you Erling Bløndal Bengtsson ~ Steve Kramer Credits: Carlos Plaza (recording engineer) Isaac Sacher (assistant recording engineer) Steven Clark (post-mastering engineer)
