Idowu Animashaun, The Apola King: Juju Music, Fame and Faith

In this episode, I sit with Idowu Animashaun, widely known as the Apola King and one of Juju music’s great voices. His songs, such as Apola Tunde, Ijo Apola, and Odidere Loga Ede were widely popular throughout the 1970s and 1980s. His story is made even more powerful by his transition from secular Juju music to evangelism in Badeku, the challenges he faced navigating fame and spiritual calling, and his lasting impact on Nigerian culture with evergreen songs.
