*HIGHLAND FLING — K.B.L. (2023)*
One little firewall. One very complicated road trip. One island full of things that really should have stayed dead.
Highland Fling recounts one of Night Wraith Inc.'s more extraordinary operations: the discovery of the Hawkins Protocol, an unexpected physiological side effect, a journey through Scotland that rapidly becomes a farce, and a covert investigation that descends into biological horror.
Betsy Langer tells the story with the benefit of hindsight — having spent the original adventure at home, hearing increasingly unbelievable reports about what her husband and wife were getting up to. Beneath the humour lies a very real story about love, fear, trust and the unintended consequences of trying to uncover a conspiracy at the highest levels.
Musically, K.B.L. unleash a ferocious blend of cyber-rock, symphonic metal and rave-metal, with soaring melodic hooks, intricate twin-lead guitars, classic synthesiser textures and enormous drums.
And some details of the mission remain classified.

OFFICIAL LYRICS
London behind them, they crossed through the Wall,
She sat in the back, not herself at all.
Her husband up front, their secret to keep,
Back in the field with her nerves running deep.
Across the border, a new voice on the line,
Found a buried protocol deep in her mind.
Built out of love, but wired in fear,
Someone she'd trusted had been there for years.
The patch went live, her pulse ran high,
She caught his eye as the miles rolled by.
One locked door, one stolen kiss,
Nobody warned her it'd feel like this!
One little firewall, a shift in the code,
A very private problem joined us on the road.
Three of us north and a job to be done,
We thought that was chaos; we'd barely begun.
Then the laughter went quiet when the mission went live,
A different kind of trouble, a fight to survive.
We came through the fire with a story to sing,
Nobody said it'd be a quiet Highland Fling!
Next day heading north, the dial hit ten,
At the Travel Lodge, it started again.
Still hiding their marriage, still playing it cool,
But the patch in her wiring was breaking the rules.
She told him the truth about years in the dark,
How the fix had relit a forgotten spark.
She glanced at the doctor, then back at her man,
"I'll do the charming. That's the new plan."
The briefing turned grim, the stakes ran high,
A silent island caught their eye.
One dark site, one job to do,
Nobody warned them what they'd walk into!
The power stayed on, but nobody stirred,
Empty corridors, not a word.
A familiar signature, altered design,
Something was wrong beneath the surface line.
Rotors overhead, then the charges blew,
Fifty raging infected came bursting through.
Automatic fire, but they wouldn't stay down,
Ramjet rockets sent the AV crashing to the ground.
The GTI came flying in, nobody at the wheel,
Got the doctor clear while the rifles spat steel.
Two lanes, one rule, put a round through the head,
Anything less and they wouldn't stay dead.
The island went up, but the data came through,
One more on the inside, and nobody knew.
No medals, no fuss, no victory parade,
Just another crack in the fortress they'd made.
One little firewall, a shift in the code,
A very private problem joined us on the road.
Three of us north and a job to be done,
We thought that was chaos; we'd barely begun.
Then the laughter came back when the fighting was done,
A different kind of victory, but we'd bloody well won.
We came through the fire with a story to sing,
Nobody said it'd be a quiet Highland Fling!
One last debrief, and the danger was past,
Three tired survivors, still laughing at last.
The patch was working — more or less,
The rest of that night? Classified, I guess.
