I watched a movie. 😂 It had been so many days since I properly sat down and watched one. Honestly, these days it feels like time is slipping through my fingers like sand. And after the movie, we decided to go somewhere I've wanted to visit for a long time. Kripalu Dham Mangarh. 🙏 This time, three of us went together: me, Kajal and Mann. And yes, "Kajal" and "Mann" are actually their nicknames. 😄 In our part of Uttar Pradesh, it is quite common for people to have a nickname apart from their official name. Sometimes people are known by their nickname more than their actual name, especially within the village and among family and friends. So today, the three of us headed towards Kripalu Dham Mangarh, located in Kunda tehsil of Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh. Mangarh is especially significant because it is the birthplace of Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj, who was born here on 5 October 1922, on the auspicious night of Sharad Purnima. His parents were Bhagvati Devi and Lalita Prasad, and he was named Ram Kripalu at birth. What was once a relatively small village eventually developed into an important spiritual centre associated with Kripalu Ji Maharaj and the Bhakti movement. Kripalu Ji Maharaj became widely known for his teachings on devotion, particularly devotion to Radha and Krishna, and for his sankirtan and spiritual discourses. According to his organisation's official biography, he was awarded the title of Jagadguru by the Kashi Vidvat Parishad on 14 January 1957. The most prominent attraction here is Bhakti Mandir, dedicated to Radha Krishna and Sita Ram. The foundation stone was laid by Kripalu Ji Maharaj in October 1996, and the temple was inaugurated in November 2005. The temple complex is maintained by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat. Inside the temple are life-sized deities of Radha Krishna on the ground floor and Sita Ram on the first floor, while the architecture and detailed stone and mosaic work make the entire structure visually striking. Over the years, Mangarh has developed into a much larger spiritual and service centre, with facilities including satsang spaces, dining facilities, kitchens, residences and other arrangements for devotees. The organisation says arrangements are made to accommodate and feed thousands of devotees. The temple campus and surrounding facilities are still being expanded and developed, so what you see today may not be the final form of Mangarh Dham. That is also one of the interesting things about travelling to places like this, you aren't just seeing history that has already stopped. Sometimes you're watching a place continue to change in front of you. For me, this wasn't just another famous religious place to tick off a list. After travelling through so many states, villages, roads, mountains and completely different environments, coming to a place like Mangarh feels different. I've always wanted to see India beyond the famous locations people usually talk about. And sometimes that means going to a famous temple. Sometimes it means walking through an unknown village.Sometimes it means meeting a stranger on the road. All of these things are India. Today was a little different though. After so many days of travelling, I finally had a little time to slow down, watch a movie, spend some time with people close to me and then visit a place that has such a strong connection with my own region. And that's pretty much how today's day went. A little rest. A little movie. A little travel.
