A quiet weekend living alone in Tokyo. Today, I’m grocery shopping at my local supermarkets and preparing a week’s worth of breakfasts at home. With prices rising in Japan, I try to be thoughtful about what I buy while still enjoying the little things I like. I only started cooking for myself this year. In fact, I started living alone for the first time in my late 30s at the end of last year. For a long time, I lived with my family and commuted about 90 minutes each way to work. Living alone was something I had wanted to do for years, but when I finally started, even simple things like laundry, sorting trash, and cooking felt harder than I expected. I’m still learning. I can’t even cook on the stove yet, so I basically cook with a microwave😂 But little by little, the things that once felt difficult are becoming part of my everyday life. Nothing dramatic happened today. I went grocery shopping, cooked, did some chores, and made it through another ordinary day. And lately, I’m starting to think that an ordinary life like this is pretty wonderful too.
