Solder Paste Stencilling - This really sucks!

Applying solder-paste is THE most important step in the PCB manufacturing process... So why is it so hard to work worth stencils? Why does one have to invest in $20k + stencil machines to be able to reliably align and flatten a stencil perfectly on a panel???? This really sucks!
