Unlike a typical mountain range, this massive pyramid-shaped peak stands almost isolated above the valley. For the local Buddhist communities, Gonbo Rangjon is a sacred mountain associated with Gonbo (Mahakala), a powerful Buddhist protector deity. Because of its religious significance, the mountain is regarded as sacred and is not treated as an ordinary climbing peak. Standing at approximately 5,520 metres (18,110 ft), Gonbo Rangjon rises dramatically above the Kargiakh/Lungnak Valley and is one of the unforgettable landmarks on the route towards Zanskar. 🏔️ Shinkula Pass – Gateway to Zanskar ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📍 Location: Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh – Zanskar, Ladakh 🏔️ Altitude: Approx. 5,050 m / 16,580 ft 🛣️ Route: Nimmu–Padum–Darcha Road 🏔️ Also Known As: Shinku La / Shingo La 🌊 Connects: Lahaul Valley with Zanskar Valley 🏗️ Developed By: Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Shinkula Pass is one of the highest motorable mountain passes on the route connecting Lahaul in Himachal Pradesh with the remote Zanskar Valley of Ladakh. At around 16,580 ft, the pass offers dramatic views of snow-covered mountains, rocky landscapes and the rugged Himalayan terrain. The pass forms an important part of the Nimmu–Padum–Darcha road, providing a new road connection between Himachal Pradesh and Zanskar. The route is being developed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to improve all-weather connectivity to the region.
